If this passes the students in grades 5-12 would each get their own laptop computer. The students in elementary grades would not get their own. But each grade would get their own mobile cart of computers. I would use these for:
* vocabulary: This would be a fun way to introduce new words for the students. Sometimes right now I do this but they have to go around my computer. This would work much better. I often use www.yahooligans.com which is a safe search engine.
* Web Quests: Web Quests are very fun in my opinion. I have a couple on my website right now. There are many sites that show hundreads of web quests for various topics and subjects.
* Accelerated Reading: Students can take their tests in the classroom.
* Other fun sites: There are many many fun, safe, and educational sites out there in the Internet that cover ever subject. If a student gets done early they could go on a math site for example. Or if a student needs extra practice they can go on a site and practice on a computer instead of paperwork.
* Research: Students can use a computer when researching a topic. In a few weeks we are starting a unit on the Solar System. I can just imagine all the opportunities the students would have and the fun the students would have taking tours of the solar system using computers.
These are some ways I would use this new technology in my classroom.
